Bandon STEP has its home in the local YMCA (otherwise known as the WEST Cork Youth Information Centre). Located on the banks of the River Bandon, the centre has become a hub of activity for young people in the Bandon area – many using its computers for internet access. STEP uses a well-equipped, dedicated computer training room and the course also benefits greatly from having access to the Youth Information resources in the next room. The Youth Information Coordinator is always available to trainees for advice and plays a substantial part in the training programme. In addition to the usual STEP modules, the 2003 Bandon STEP group has recently completed a First Aid course and a piloted a new module: “Y-Share our world”, which explores issues arising from the recent influx of refugees into Ireland.
