What is the YMCA STEP Programme about?
Support Training Entreprise Programme

STEP has been operating since 1989. It is a ‘Second Chance’ programme lasting 23 weeks, which is based on a participative and learner centered approach. The STEP programme seeks to raise motivation and to build the self-esteem of young people through developing a number of core skills such as communications and personal effectiveness.  It seeks to introduce participants to the world of Information and Communications Technology and to prepare them for the workplace. STEP is also actively involved in the process of seeking certification for participants through the Further Education Training and Awards Council (FETAC) and trains and tests them to acquire the European Computer Driving License (ECDL).

STEP is for young people who would like to:
Improve interpersonal skillsA Ballincollig group chose to take up an outdoor challenge.
Achieve qualifications through informal learning
Learn basic computer skills
Obtain a European Computer Driving Licence
Work towards FETAC certification
Plan a career pathway
Experience a quality work placement
Gain confidence in applying for jobs

"And so came the day I was to start STEP. I was a wreck from nerves and excitement. It was a great comfort to recognise some familiar faces. We met our tutors and other members of STEP and were shown the content of the course. To my amazement this course was a whole lot more that I thought it was. By the end we will have completed a number of FETAC modules, a full ECDL and a very impressive Curriculum Vitae!"

STEP is funded by the Department of Education and Science with assistance from the European Social Fund
