Local Association Support

Introduction

National Council’s primary role is to support local YMCA work. It carries this out in four ways, by supporting the development of new YMCAs, by encouraging ‘best practice’, by advocating on behalf of YMCAs with national bodies funders and government and by acting as a bridge between YMCAs nationally and internationally.

Strategic Goals

Between 2003 and 2006 the National Council will provide local support by pursuing the following goals:

  • Establish autonomous YMCAs for National Council managed projects (Greenhill, Co Cork, Donegal, West Dublin)

  • Support emerging YMCAs Newcastle, Banbridge

  • Ensure the ownership and operation of YMCA standards in all YMCA work in Ireland

  • Provide support for ‘Best Practice@ policy Development

  • Provide Personnel recruitment induction and development resources to all YMCAs

  • Extend intensive support to YMCAs experiencing difficulties

  • Provide support and encouragement  for Strategic development for local YMCAs for organisational, financial and practice development

  • Engage in partnership projects which build and utilise the strengths of both local and national organisations

Methodology

The National Council will engage with Management committees, general secretaries and other staff to provide forums for discussion, individual support and direct training as identified and requested by local associations. It will seek to build in depth relationships which build the overall YMCA ‘team/community’. In particular it will promote the ‘Standards initiative’ through joint work with associations.

Resources

This support work will be the primary responsibility of the National Secretary, Deputy National Secretary, Greater Dublin Development Officer, pt Policy Officer & pt Personnel Officer. It will be funded by the Core funding received from YCNI & Dept of Education (youth Affairs) Grants, affiliation Fees. This funding being core grant aided is not time limited and is relatively secure long term.
